Build North began its journey in Leeds in 1996, originally established as City Builders Northern Ltd by Chris Watson. With a passion for craftsmanship and an eye for detail, Chris specialised in large-scale refurbishments of period and listed properties throughout Leeds and beyond — from dockside apartment developments to bespoke residential projects for domestic clients.

Over time, Chris built a skilled in-house team capable of managing all aspects of construction without relying on subcontractors — a principle that still defines our approach today. One of his greatest passions became barn conversions, where innovation and design could breathe new life into traditional structures and create truly exceptional family homes.

Having worked alongside my dad for many years, I’m proud to have taken control of the business and continue the legacy he began. I’m Joshua Watson, and it’s been a lifelong dream to follow in his footsteps. Through years of hands-on experience, Chris passed down not just his knowledge and skill, but his commitment to building with integrity.

Today, Build North is powered by that legacy and supported by a well-established, directly employed team. We offer a full range of building contractor services — from small refurbishments and structural alterations to full property developments. Our clients can count on us to see every project through from start to finish with the same team on-site throughout.
